I don’t think you guys know just how powerful this scene was. Literally when I was in the audience I could just see a lot of the women of color affected by this scene. A lot of us have gone through this self denial and self hate through the effects of white beauty standards and beliefs forced down our throats. This was the first time I had ever seen something that I had personally felt before portrayed on the screen and it put tears in my eyes. If you haven’t seen this movie, go see it. It’s out on dvd/bluray/streaming

yeah!! this! i think there was a conscious “this is a showcase of good dancers, not appropriation” and i think they did try it but it’s like, i’m sorry, you gotta learn how to show black women without compulsory sexualization, white people, you gotta figure it out
That was supposed to be just a quick and simple mermaid drawing, but then I did a background. What’s gotten into me?!

This just punched me in the heart.
This really hit me hard. I’m just about in tears.
Alan Foster, The Fall (detail)
With a spate of huge stories breaking in the past few weeks, you might not have caught the massive environmental crisis in northern Mexico that began earlier in August.
According to the Associated Press, local politicians claim that Grupo Mexico, a private mining company in Sonora with a troubling track record of hazardous waste violations in Mexico and the U.S., was slow to report a disastrous fault in its leaching ponds, which hold industrial acid used in the mining process. The spill released around 10 million gallons of acid into the Bacanuchi and Sonora Rivers.
The Ferguson PD has successfully reframed the conversation to be about a robbery, but remember, Darren Wilson didn’t know about any robbery when he stopped Mike Brown. That means he didn’t even get shot over $2-3 in stolen cigarillos. He got shot for jaywalking.
